Delaware Revolutionary War Supply Taxes
1776-1783
The Delaware Sons of the American Revolution has begun to post the Revolutionary War Supply Taxes for Sussex, Kent, and New Castle Counties. Immediately following this introduction are the County Assessments lists that provide evidence of Patriotic Service. These documents provide the lists of assessments for each of the Hundreds in the three Counties which supported the Revolutionary War. The documents also list the assessments which did not support the Revolutionary War.
The actual tax records that are shown in the following scanned records only contain the tax records which supported the Revolutionary War. The other tax records have been deleted. The source of these records is from the Delaware Public Archives. Each County will have the Record Group referenced that were used for the tax information.
There are a few tax records that do not appear on either the approved list or the lists that do not support the Revolutionary War Taxes. They have been included in the files for your information. For them to be used as proof additional research will be needed to establish if they qualify as Supply Tax. This requires researching the details of the actual tax law.
The quality of some of the records is poor and this is a reflection on the quality of the original tax records themselves. Using an OCR reader may help improve the image. If you find errors or have questions, please contact any member of the website committee.
