Youth Leadership Awards and Contests
GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD
The Delaware Society works with schools that have programs for the development of citizenship to honor the top students (male or female) in these programs. The award consists of the Bronze Good Citizenship Award, which includes a medal, certificate, and the citizenship lapel pin. Delaware Society Chapters present Good Citizenship awards to students at the local level. The State Society presents Good Citizenship awards to students for accomplishments at the state level.

EAGLE SCOUT RECOGNITION AWARD:
Each Boy Scout who attains the rank of Eagle is eligible to receive the SAR Eagle Scout Recognition Certificate. The Delaware Society tries to provide a member to make a personal presentation to the Scout at his Eagle Court of Honor.

EAGLE SCOUT CONTEST:
Any Eagle Scout under the age of 19 may enter the Eagle Scout Contest. Eagle Contest description and rules.
State Deadline: Contestants should deliver their entries to the SAR Eagle State Contact postmarked no later than December 31. Chapters who wish to recognize contestants in their areas should ask the SAR Eagle State Contact for their names. The state award is presented in April, and the national award is presented in July.

HISTORICAL ESSAY CONTEST:
Any student (male or female) who qualifies and writes an essay in the specified topic area may participate in the Knight Historical Essay Contest.

State Deadline: Contestants should deliver their entries to the state contact postmarked no later than December 31. The state award is presented in April, and the national award is presented in July.

JROTC EXCELLENCE AWARDS:
Each JROTC unit in the state may select a junior cadet (male or female) to receive the SAR JROTC Award. The Delaware Society tries to provide a member to make a personal presentation to the cadet at the unit's award banquet.

JROTC CONTEST:
Each JROTC unit in the state may nominate a cadet for the JROTC Contest. Potential contestants should read the
JROTC Contest description and rules.
Chapter and State Deadlines: Contestants should deliver their entries to the SAR chapter contact postmarked no later than March 15. See your JROTC instructor or Email the SAR State Contact to get the address of the SAR chapter contact for your school. Chapters should deliver their winning entries to the SAR JROTC State Contact postmarked no later than April 7. The state award is presented in May, and the national award is presented in July.

PATRIOTIC ORATION CONTEST:
Any student (male or female) who qualifies and can present a speech in the specified topic area may participate in the Rumbaugh Oration Contest.

Note: The Delaware Society has not organized its own state oration contest, but it has from time to time selected contestants based on state oration contests sponsored by other organizations. The national contest is held in July. The state award is presented in April, and the national award is presented in July.
