SAR Membership Research Resources

NSSAR Patriot Research System (PRS)

Once you create an account you will be able to use the Patriot Research System for the following types of searches:

  • Patriot Search - allows you to search the PRS based on Patriot Name, Patriot Number, and Other Criteria
  • Member Search - allows you to search the PRS based on SAR Member Number. This allows for viewing all known descendants of a given member
  • Descendant Search - allows you to search the PRS based on Descendant Name. A Descendant is someone who sits between an SAR member and a Patriot in their lineage. (NOTE: This search is a work in progress, as not every record has lineage data in this database today.
  • Biography Search - allows you to search the PRS specifically for biographies that have been submitted.
  • Cemetery Search - allows you to search the PRS specifically for cemeteries that have Patriots interred.

Daughters of the American Revolution Genealogical Research

The DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS) is a free resource provided by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to aid general genealogical research and to assist with the DAR membership process. The GRS is a collection of databases that provide access to the many materials amassed by the DAR since its founding in 1890.

DAR

The DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS) offers the following searches for free:

  • Ancestor - The data in the Ancestor Database is taken from verified membership applications and supplemental applications.
  • Member - In order to protect the privacy of the Society’s members, search is limited to basic information on a member’s ancestor record using national number, name and other fields using this tab.
  • Descendants -The Descendants database is an index of the names found on the lineage page of DAR applications and supplementals.
  • GRC Search (Genealogical Records Copy Index) - Information in the “GRC National Index” does not relate specifically to approved membership applications and supplementals and is not the contents of the files of documentation supporting them. This index is an ongoing project, and the staff of the DAR Library’s GRC Office adds new index content daily.
  • Revolutionary War Records, including:
    • Patriot Records Project Index - This index contains every readable name of numerous Revolutionary War records.
    • The Revolutionary War Pension Index:
    • Patriots of Color
    • Forgotten Patriots Research Guide
    • DAR Revolutionary War Grave Marker Index:
    • Bible Records and Transcriptions
    • General Resources

Delaware Public Archives

As the repository for records of Delaware state and local governments, the Delaware Public Archives contains thousands of documents and other materials that can help with researching one’s genealogical roots. Among these records are census materials, vital statistics including birth, death, and marriage records; tax assessments, probate/estate records, land deeds, and military records.

The Delaware Public Archives also preserves a large amount of genealogically related materials that were of private origin. These records include family histories, bible records, church records, manuscript genealogies, and newspapers.
